Home/Face/Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid surgery and “eyelid lift” are terms we typically use to describe the surgical procedure known as blepharoplasty. This treatment is designed to address a variety of aesthetic concerns around the eyes to produce a more youthful, rested, and vibrant appearance. In some cases, eyelid surgery can even be helpful for patients who are experiencing vision problems caused by an excess amount of skin hanging over the eyes. Dr. Amie Miller can perform upper eyelid surgery, lower eyelid surgery, or both procedures to help patients achieve their goals and feel more confident about their appearance.

What Are the Benefits of Eyelid Surgery?

Eyelid surgery offers numerous benefits for women and men who are concerned about signs of aging, exhaustion, or other conditions affecting the areas surrounding their eyes. This treatment is capable of:

  • Reducing signs of wrinkles and lax skin around the eyes
  • Creating firmer skin and a more refreshed look
  • Diminishing signs of under-eye bags and puffiness
  • Reducing a “hooding” effect that may be creating a visual obstruction

During your initial consultation with Dr. Miller, she will evaluate your needs and determine whether you are an ideal candidate for eyelid surgery. If this procedure is a good option for achieving your goals, Dr. Miller can develop a personalized treatment plan and talk with you about the next steps.

Eyelid surgery can be a remarkably effective procedure on its own, or it can be added to a facelift or brow lift treatment plan for even more comprehensive rejuvenation.

What Does the Blepharoplasty Procedure Involve?

An eyelid lift can be performed on the upper eyelid areas, the lower eyelid areas, or both in combination. The best option for you will ultimately depend on your unique needs and goals.

Upper Eyelid Surgery

Upper eyelid surgery can reduce excess skin, smooth the remainder, remove fat, and tighten underlying muscles as necessary. For most patients, this surgery requires incisions that are very small. Additionally, the incisions are often placed in areas that are very discreet, such as the natural creases of the eyelid.

Lower Eyelid Surgery

Lower eyelid surgery can be ideal for bagginess, puffiness, and other signs of fatigue and aging under the eyes. Small incisions made just below the eyelash line is the standard technique for this procedure, which can ultimately make any residual scarring barely noticeable. Dr. Miller uses a special technique to reposition excess fat, reducing the hollowness often noticed with aging eyes.

Eyelid Surgery Recovery

Many patients are able to restart normal daily routines within approximately 7 to 10 days following eyelid surgery; however, the precise length of recovery time varies depending on each person’s needs and the extent of the procedure. Swelling and bruising should fade as the areas heal, and discomfort can be controlled with medication. Dr. Miller will give you detailed instructions to help you achieve a smooth and efficient recovery.
